Gears are the most commonly used machine elements used for power and motion transmission. Dimensional control of gears is the most important part of quality control processes. For this purpose, many measurement techniques are developed. These measurement techniques are determined considering gear quality, gear type and measurement time. With the help of newly developing technologies, more accurate, faster measurements can be performed. Technological progress in computer and control sciences enables the use of image processing solutions for this purpose. Measuring parts by using image processing methods is being more widely used in industry day by day. Process speed, ease of use, high measuring accuracy are the most important advantages of these systems. Two or three-dimensional measurements can be performed by image processing technologies. Dimensional control of gears is an extra benefit of these systems. In this project, an open source programming language is that Python with OpenCV algorithms that performs dimensional quality control of gears using image processing methods is developed. The deformations of gears occur during manufacturing or working, can be established by the help of these algorithms. Also, any gear types can be measured in the image processing method. It specifies gear type and calculates standard dimensions so the user does not have to input these values for each gear. Thus, it is aimed to measure the gear measurements in the faster and accurate. Moreover, this software is capable of the export X and Y coordinates. This can provide to us that, coordinates of most two-dimensional parts can be imported by Autocad or such kind of software. Thus, the much complex parts can be drawn automatically by generated coordinates. This is also called reverse engineering.
